The One

We don’t always get a happy ever after

Sometimes it all falls apart

Some get just one chance and blow it

That’s the thing with affairs of the heart

You’ll never know if it will last

Maybe it’s lust and the encounter will be brisk

But a true love that could last forever

Surely that’s well worth the risk?

What if you’re too scared to jump in?

Or even to dangle your toe?

What if that person is ‘the one?’

How will you feel when you’re watching them go?

It’s better to have loved and have lost

Is the general consensus it seems

Keep searching and loving and eventually

You’ll meet them, ‘the one’ from your dreams
